God Protects His People

Woe to the nation who attacks Israel. One of the Psalmists writes,

O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still. See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads. With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more” (Psalm 83:1-4, NIV).

In response he prays against nations who oppose Israel, “May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace. Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD-- that you alone are the Most High over all the earth” (Psalm 83:17, NIV). Isaiah 51:1-17 describes in detail God's special relationship to his people Israel. God does not act kindly to those who harm or injure his children. Although most of us are not Jewish and do not inherit their promises, we are his adopted children if we have trusted in God. A Psalmist writes,

“Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.” (Psalm 91:14-16, NIV)
