11 unique Bible types

What is a Type?

A type is a figure, whether a person or thing, representing something or someone else in striking similarity.

Here are 11 unique Bible types:

Adam is a type of Christ: Romans 5:14; 1Corinthians 15:45

Melchizedek is a type of Christ. Who is he?

This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, his name means "king of righteousness"; then also, "king of Salem" means "king of peace." Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, like the Son of God he remains a priest forever (Hebrews 7:1-3, NIV).

Noah's flood is a type of baptism which pictures the baptism of the Spirit when we are saved through belief in Jesus' death, burial and resurrection—1Peter 3:20-21

Leaven (yeast) is a type for false teaching, hypocrisy, and sin—Matthew 16:6, 11-12; 1Corinthians 5:8

The earthly tabernacle (portable worship center) is a type of the heavenly sanctuary for the worship of God

We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man. Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer. If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already men who offer the gifts prescribed by the law.

They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: "See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain." But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises. (Hebrews 8:1b-6, NIV)

Old Testament sacrifices are a type of Christ—Leviticus 4:2-3,12; Hebrews 9:7-15,18-25; 10:1-22,29; 13:11-13; 1Peter 1:19; Revelation 5:6

Manna, the bread eaten by the Israelites in the wilderness, is a type of Christ—John 6:32-35; 1Corinthians 10:3

The bronze serpent is a type of Christ—Numbers 21:9; John 3:14-15

Joshua is a type of Christ (see today's Bible study)

David is a type of Christ—follow this link. (Hey if someone does it better, why not give him the publicity?)

The Church is Christ's Bride, a type of the body of Christ—Revelation 21:2,9; 22:17
